“Trappers & Traders In The Timbers” is the theme for Frontier Days 2015, and there will be a lot of history during the celebration Sept. 17-19.

But there will be a bit of futuristic stuff too.

A highlight of this year’s Tecumseh birthday party will be a visit from the Science Matters Mobile Museum, sponsored by Gordon Cooper Technology Center. The Science Matters Mobile Museum is a 30,000-pound vehicle — larger than a school bus! — that allows visitors to climb on board and “be transported into an interactive environment with exhibits designed to encourage exploration”.

More than a dozen activities include such things as audio equipment that shows sound waves and features different noises, a shadow box that temporarily captures children’s shadows on the wall, air tubes that allow kids to test which objects are light enough to be blown away, and chair pulleys that children can use to lift themselves.

This cabin may look like it's always been here, but it came in to town early this week as part of the Rendezvous encampment.

Local law enforcement officers will help lead the 2015 Frontier Days parade Saturday as honorary grand marshals.

Tecumseh Police Chief Gary Crosby, Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth, Citizen Potawatomi Nation Police Chief Jim Collard and Absentee Shawnee Police Chief Shawn Crowley have been invited to ride on Jack Barrett’s five-ton military truck, along with other officers in the truck or on foot.

Behind them will be marchers carrying a banner reading, “We Stand Behind You” and carrying dozens of blue balloons. Anyone who wishes to join the group marching behind the officers is invited to do so.
